Messier 20, known as the Trifid Nebula, an area of nebulosity in the constellation Sagittarius. The area is a combination of an open cluster of stars, a reflection nebula (the blue area at top),an emission/HII region (the red area), and a dark nebula (interstellar dust/clouds causing the apparent gabs or dark areas within the area. The Trifid Nebula is approximately 5,100 light years from Earth in the Scutum arm of the Milky Way galaxy.
